EPOGRID 500 is a two-component epoxy compound designed for coating concrete floors in public, industrial and warehouse premises, as well as private garages. The coating helps protect concrete surfaces from mechanical load, abrasive wear, periodic exposure to fuels, lubricants, solvents and salts, as well as short-term exposure to weak acids, alkali solutions and other aggressive substances. It reduces concrete dusting and gives the floor a decorative, durable and easier-to-maintain surface.

The product consists of a semi-finished base component and DE hardener, which must be mixed before use in a weight ratio of 100:20. Available bases include TAL/A white or light base, TDL/C transparent or dark base. EPOGRID 500 can be tinted, allowing the floor coating to be adapted to the function and visual requirements of the premises.

The compound can be used as a primer, as a thin-layer coating with a thickness of 0.2–0.4 mm, or as a thick-layer self-levelling floor coating with a thickness of 1.5–3 mm when heat-treated quartz sand is added. Application is carried out with a brush or roller, and the prepared mixture must be used within approximately 30 minutes at +20 °C. Light foot traffic is possible after 36 hours, while full curing takes 7 days. Work should be carried out when the floor surface temperature is not below +10 °C.

EN

The product is supplied as a two-component system:

– a semi-finished base component, available in one of four versions: TAL base, TDL base, RAL 7030 or RAL 7038;
– DE hardener.

Before use, the semi-finished component must be mixed with DE hardener in a weight ratio of 100:20.

Before starting work, carefully read the application instructions and the surface preparation requirements.

Application conditions

When working with EPOGRID 500, the floor surface temperature must not be below +10 °C.

USE

Before adding the hardener, the semi-finished component must be thoroughly mixed until fully homogeneous.

The following preparation procedure depends on the intended use of the mixture.

Option A: preparation of an untinted mixture for priming

Mix the TDL base semi-finished component with the hardener in a weight ratio of 100:20. Example: 3.15 kg of semi-finished component + 0.63 kg of hardener.

Mix the prepared composition intensively and thoroughly for 5 minutes. Immediately afterwards, dilute the mixture with thinner 646 or 647, adding 15–25% by weight or 25–30% by volume. In practical terms, this corresponds to approximately 0.8–1.0 l of thinner.

The total volume of the mixture prepared for priming will be approximately 3.5–3.7 l.

Priming is required for concrete surfaces that still retain absorbency.

Option B: preparation of a mixture for thin-layer coating, 0.2–0.4 mm

Mix the semi-finished component with DE hardener in a weight ratio of 100:20. Mix the prepared composition intensively and thoroughly for 5 minutes.

Component quantities for the two packaging versions:

B1) 3.15 kg of semi-finished component + 0.63 kg of hardener. The total volume of the ready-to-use mixture will be approximately 2.7 l.

B2) 7.7 kg of semi-finished component + 1.54 kg of hardener. The total volume of the ready-to-use mixture will be approximately 6.6 l.

Option C: preparation of a mixture for thick-layer application, 1.5–3 mm self-levelling floors

Mix the semi-finished component with DE hardener in a weight ratio of 100:20. Example: 7.7 kg of semi-finished component + 1.54 kg of hardener.

Mix the composition intensively and thoroughly for at least 3 minutes. Then add heated quartz sand with a grain size of 0.1–0.6 mm. For example, add 5 l, or 8 kg, of sand to 6.6 l, or 9.24 kg, of mixture.

The total volume of the ready-to-use mixture will be approximately 10 l.

After adding the sand, mix the composition for approximately 3 minutes using a low-speed electric drill fitted with a mixer-type attachment. Then allow the mixture to stand for 3–5 minutes, after which it is ready for application.

At +20 °C, the ready-to-use mixture must be used within 30 minutes.

Notes

  1. During the various preparation stages, mixing should be carried out for 3–5 minutes using an electric drill fitted with a special mixing attachment. Insufficiently thorough mixing of the components may cause various defects, including:

– local areas of uncured coating with reduced mechanical and protective properties;
– surface porosity, which significantly reduces the durability and protective performance of EPOGRID 500;
– uneven colour shade of the surface.

  1. For priming metal surfaces, use EPOPRIM epoxy primer. The same primer may also be used on mineral surfaces.

  2. When applying a thin-layer coating of 0.2–0.4 mm under elevated temperature conditions, thinner 646 or 647 may be added up to 10% by volume. This may slow the curing process and improve the flow and levelling properties of the coating. The thinner must be added to the semi-finished component during the initial mixing stage, before the hardener is added.

  3. At +20 °C, the topcoat may be applied after priming no earlier than 24 hours and no later than 96 hours after priming.

USE OF THE COATED SURFACE

Light foot traffic on the coated surface is allowed after 36 hours of curing at +20 °C. Full curing is achieved within 7 days.

Wet cleaning must not be started earlier than 7 days after application, provided that curing has taken place at +20 °C.

The product shelf life is 3 years from the manufacturing date indicated on the packaging.

The maximum permitted VOC content for this product in EU countries, category A/j, is 500 g/l. The maximum VOC content of this product is 480 g/l.
