The Metabo OFE 738 combines a powerful Marathon motor with a durable two-column plunge system to deliver high routing accuracy in workshop and onsite applications. The 710 W motor, controlled by Vario Constamatic (VC) full-wave electronics, allows speed adjustment between 13 000 and 34 000 rpm and keeps the speed almost constant under load for clean cuts in MDF, chipboard and solid timber. A 50 mm maximum plunge depth with fine, stepless adjustment and clear scale makes it easy to repeat identical cuts in series work.

A hardened and ground collet ensures precise tool concentricity, reducing vibration and improving surface quality. The 8 mm collet size covers most common woodworking bits, while the spindle lock enables quick cutter changes. The coated die-cast aluminium base plate glides smoothly over the workpiece, and the transparent insert around the cutter provides a clear view of the routing area. Restart protection prevents accidental start-up after a power failure, and electronic motor cut-out reacts if the bit jams. Carbon brushes with automatic shut-off protect the motor and indicate when service is required.

Using an adapter plate, the OFE 738 can also be run on guide rails (accessory), and the motor unit with clamping collar can be used as a router motor for flexible shafts or jigs. When connected to a vacuum via the extraction port, the tool enables low-dust routing for cleaner working conditions.
